Heather

'Heather', my first attempt at sweater design, is finally finished! I'm so proud, I thought I'd never get the neckline to look right. Photos soon...

On the difficulties of having very small hands...

Well, I finished my first glove in an evening! The DPs were easy after a few rounds, as were the cables...I can't believe I was scared for so long. The yarn knits up beautifully, and I am incredibly pleased with myself for managing to fit two knitting firsts into one item. So, I hear you cry, what is the problem?

Well, it's just too big for poor little me! I feel like I have to keep my fingers spread out in case it slips off, and my hand looks dwarfed by it. I feel like a kid wearing her mum's gloves. It's an issue....

Soooooo....I'm going to try reducing the number of cast on stitches from 45 to around 35, make the other glove smaller and see if it works. If it does, I'll unravel and reknit the first glove to fit. If not, well, I'll cry and throw things, because I love this colour so much and I want to show it off before spring comes!

Fetching

I decided after months, nay years, of putting it off using straights and circulars, it was time I learnt to use DPs. I was disasterously swayed by Cheryl Niamath's gorgeous handwarmers, 'Fetching', from the cover of Knitty's Summer 2006 issue. So today I toddled off to my LYS and bought a set of DPs and two balls of Sidar Click, a gorgeously chunky dusky blue yarn. The pattern recommended Debbie Bliss's Cashmerino Aran, but as always the colour swayed me and I went for the old dubious substitution option. The tension works out fine though, so it should be ok. The DPs seem deceptively easy so far...were my fears unfounded?

The Boyfriend Scarf

This is the scarf I made for my boyfriend for Christmas. He's a bit of a dandy, and I wanted to make him a nice warm equivalent of one of those silk evening scarves that Victorian gents used to wear. It's made from a chunky weight acrylic/wool/cotton blend, which gives it a nice mix of warmth and lightness.

I'm not going to post the pattern here because it's pretty basic. I'm already thinking of possible variations, which I'll put the patterns up for at a later stage (if I ever get round to it, my workload is killing me at the moment...arrrgh.) I'll also try and get a closer shot of the actual scarf....he kept running away!

Welcome to She Knit This

This is where I will be posting my work from now on. I'll also try and get some patterns up as soon as possible (i.e. when I've worked out sizings.....way over my little arty head.)

In other news, Santa gave me a brand spanking new sewing machine for Christmas, so I might be posting some of my attempts at sewing soon....stay tuned folks.
